WELCOME
To the "official" blog and website for me, Alex Frohlick, PhD researcher at Goldsmiths University of London currently under the supervision of Dr James Burton.
This is a space primarily dedicated to screen studies, film theory, and film criticism in the form of essays and reviews. I will also include writing on music, culture, and my research experience.
Tasked with introducing and fleshing out the concept of “AI Film" my current research project aims to demonstrate the practical and theoretical implications of growing AI technology within filmmaking practise and its impact on the future of film theory and film studies.
Other research interests include film-philosophy, representations of technology, artificial intelligence, and filmmaking innovation.
For further information on my research fell free to reach out via the link below.
ABOUT
Ever since graduating from undergraduate study at Southampton Solent University with a BA in Film and Television Production, I knew I wanted to work towards a PhD.
During my time at King's College UoL in the Film and Philosophy MA program, this desire was only solidified. So, despite the strong warnings from many, I began putting my research proposal together sending it far and wide across the country.
Of all places to end up accepting my proposal was a university in the heart of South London only a half-hour from my hometown of Croydon.
As a first-generation under-funded research student I began my project last September within the Department of Media, Communications, and Cultural Studies (catchy right?).
People pursue PhDs for many reasons but my motivation behind these decisions has always been the desire to teach film and screen studies to future generations of filmmakers and academics.
I hope to use this blog/website as a channel for more laid-back observations of this research process reflecting on aspects of my thesis as well as my experience as a full-time student also working a "normal" part-time job.
